ABOUT CROSS STITCH

Looking back:

Once upon a time… No, only fairy tales begin with these words. Fact is that I did my first cross stitch at school in 1973. Our needlecraft teacher taught us how to stitch and to practice it we had to stitch our initials on a gym bag. Those bags weren’t big because physical education in the gym was still done bare-footed! Not being allowed to stitch all my initials (CvM) was the worst part to me. The teacher limited it to two letters. I can’t remember whether I chose CM or CV back then but I do remember that I was really upset. And you know what else? I didn’t like stitching at all!

In 1986 I traveled to the USA for the first time in my life. Since my skills in English didn’t go further than “yes” and “no” I chose a guided trip. On the very last day of this particular trip I bought a leaflet with a few “Precious Moments” cross stitching patterns.

More than one year went by. In 1988 I finally stitched a small picture with great difficulty and gave it away to a friend of mine. Several months passed by before I decided to give cross stitching another try. The rest, as the saying goes, is history! Today I stitch between two and five hours (almost) every day.

Many people wrinkle their noses when they hear the words “cross stitching” but those people have probably never seen the wonderful modern patterns one can do. Of  course I also have traditional Swiss patterns that used to be famous many years ago but I would only stitch one of them upon order because they seem to be too “old fashioned” for most people. My interest is focused on the art of modern cross stitch.

Present:

Let me give you a short summary of my creative work on this website. You will see that there are hardly any limits as to what can be done in the cross stitch technique. And you know what? I still bubble over with new ideas. Of course I'll post any new items on the page "Aktuell - News"  as soon as they are finished.

At the present time my work includes the following items:
Pictures, bookmarks, cards, baby bibs, sweatshirts, ornaments, magnets, jar lid covers, glass jars with borders, miniature tins as well as some various items.

It takes 33 filing boxes to store my huge collection of cross stitching leaflets! Besides I also have quite a collection of books with patterns for cross stitch. I'm pretty sure that I'll find a fitting motif for almost everyone. I carry a lot of patterns with animals (cats, dogs, wild animals) as well as of lighthouses, beach and sea. But I also have patterns for many other subjects like: musical instruments, alphabets, Christmas, flowers, silhouettes, four seasons, children, landscapes, Indian motifs, maps & landmarks, hedges, doors & windows, kitchen motifs, motifs for the bathroom, baby motifs and many more.

Are you searching for something in particular? Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me! Who knows; I might have the perfect pattern already waiting for you. Asking is free and there’s no obligation to either order and/or buy anything.
My Slogan is:

You ask, I search!
